Thermostat installation matched to the system you already own
A thermostat is a small box with a big job: it decides when your compressor runs, how long your blower stays on, and whether your heat strips fire up on a 50-degree morning. Certified Air Masters LLC is a family-run HVAC company — Frank and Ruth Dross/Jara — and we install thermostats as a proper wiring job, not a swap-and-go. That means checking what your equipment is actually capable of before we recommend anything.
Most of the thermostat calls we take fall into one of a few groups. Someone bought a smart thermostat online and found there was no common wire behind the old one. A unit is short-cycling and the thermostat is sitting on a sunny wall or above a lamp. A heat pump is running backwards because the reversing-valve terminal was wired to the wrong setting years ago. Or a thermostat has simply gone dark and nobody's sure whether the problem is the thermostat or the board it's talking to.
Smart, programmable and conventional thermostats
We'll install the thermostat you've already bought, or recommend one that suits how you actually live. There's no single right answer — a rental property and a home with a two-stage heat pump need different things.
- Wi-Fi and smart thermostats, including setup on your home network and the app on your phone
- Programmable thermostats for households that keep a predictable schedule
- Simple non-programmable thermostats where straightforward is the point
- Heat pump thermostats with correct reversing-valve and auxiliary heat configuration
- Multi-stage and variable-speed controls that match higher-end equipment
- Adding a common (C) wire, or a transformer and adapter where there's no spare conductor
- Relocating a thermostat off a wall where sun, drafts or a nearby vent are skewing readings
If we're already quoting an AC installation for you, the thermostat gets chosen to match the new equipment rather than carried over by default — a new two-stage system paired with an old single-stage thermostat will never run the way it was designed to.
A thermostat that actually controls your equipment correctly
Here's what a visit looks like. We pull the existing thermostat, photograph and label the wiring, and identify what each conductor is doing at the air handler. We confirm the new thermostat is compatible with your system type and stages. Then we mount it level, configure it for your equipment — not the factory default — and run the system through cooling, heating and fan to make sure every stage responds. Before we leave, we walk you through the schedule and the app so you're not reading a manual after we drive off.
You get a written estimate before any work startsso the price is settled before a tool comes out of the truck. If we open up the wall and find the job is different than expected, we stop and talk to you about it.
